Castle / Manor

Castle / Manor

In the late 18th century, the political and aristocratic elites from the Romanian Principalities and Transylvania started to draw inspiration from Europe: the families of nobles and boyars built on their country properties palaces, castles and manors that emulated, in general, the architectural styles that were fashionable in the West at the time. Thus, numerous boyar manors were built. Those raised in Moldavia imitated the Neoclassic style that was popular in Russia, whilst the buildings from Wallachia, Banat and Transylvania integrated Western elements. In Wallachia, French architecture was the most popular, as many French architects and artists raised houses there that were inspired by French eclecticism. The buildings from Banat and Transylvania were, of course, influenced by Austro-Hungarian architecture. The advantages of these residences do not consist solely of the relatively small distance to the big cities (which makes them easily accessible holiday houses), but also of the lands that often surround the manor or castle. Consequently, these properties can be used for both leisure and business purposes, as they can accommodate a farm or other similar enterprises. These residences are the perfect match for active persons who have limited spare time and who long for a weekend escapade away from the urban bustle or simply desire to invest in a new business model.
